TQUK Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner is a vocational qualification designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills needed for working in the early years sector. This diploma aims to prepare early childhood practitioners for roles that involve supporting the development and well-being of young children.

This fully accredited Early Years Practitioner course is the direct replacement for the old NVQ Level 2 and is aimed at learners currently working or volunteering with children from birth to 5 years old and also gaining knowledge of children 5-7 years old in a variety of settings, including nurseries and preschools. This course meets the minimum Ofsted requirements for employment at Level 2.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements however learners must be 16 years and above and Learners should have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent

Assessment

Assessment and direct observation

Learners will be required to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments (normally one after each unit) as they progress through this course. Each assignment will contain a variety of practical tasks and essay-type questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to monitor progress. You will be provided with constructive feedback to help you complete each unit to the required standard.

Part of your course will require direct observation by a qualified assessor in your placement setting.

Your expert witness must be suitably qualified to do so, as below:

Have a working knowledge of the units for which they are providing expert testimony and hold one of the qualifications below.

  1. Be a qualified teacher with QTS status.
  2. Be a qualified assessor and hold an A1/D32 or CAVA qualification.
  3. Be qualified for a minimum of NVQ/Diploma LV3 in Early Years/Childcare.

Enrollment process requires evidence or proof of the EW qualifications

The qualified assessor here at LCPS will make final assessment decisions. However, the college assessor will determine and agree upon whether an expert witness (EW) is needed in collaboration with LCPS.
